SUMMER JOBS IN BIOLOGY, ENTOMOLOGY, 
& PUBLIC HEALTH
 

POSITIONS: Laboratory/Surveillance Technicians (8), Field Technicians (100)

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: Varies. Generally, May through August.
(Dates are flexible with regard to student's schedules) 

JOB LOCATION: Colorado Mosquito Control, Inc. is a state-wide municipal mosquito control and vector-borne disease surveillance contractor. Most field technician jobs are located along the Front Range in the Boulder/Denver, Weld County and Ft. Collins/Loveland areas. Other area include, Gunnison, Cortez, Ft. Morgan, kellyGlenwood Springs, Granby/Kremmling and central mountains.

MAJOR DUTIES: Laboratory/Surveillance Technicians  Operate a trap network designed to monitor and identify mosquito pest & disease vector species covering numerous contracted communities. Duties will included trap setup, retrieval, mosquito identification and technical reporting. 

Field Technicians  Field Technicians work on one or more large scale county/municipal mosquito control programs operated by Colorado Mosquito Control. Primary duties include Biological field sampling of wetland habitats, site treatment using Integrated Pest Management methods to control larval mosquito populations, and accurate reporting of daily activities. Complete class room and field training will be provided. nickPrevious employees have gone on to work at CDC - Ft. Collins & Atlanta, Health Departments, Mosquito Control Districts and other related professions. Hours are generally 4-10's either Mon-Thurs 7am to 5:30pm or Tue-Fri 7am to 5:30pm. A company vehicle will be furnished while on the job. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Individuals must be at least 18 years of age, posses a valid driver's license, and have a good driving record. Driving records will be checked. Also, must have reliable transportation to and from work, be in good physical condition (able to lift 50 lbs.), and have the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Internship positions may be available. dm9

PREFERRED: No specialized education or experience is required. However, individuals with Biology, Entomology, Public Health, insect identification, field sampling, or GIS (geographic information systems) experience are preferred. Base rate $10.00/hour, higher with background or experience.
